Under Construction

Hello Bloggie friends,

Just wanted to let you know why I have been "absent" in the blogging world.  I'm presently working on improving and enhancing my blog site.  One of the things that is happening right now is a slow but necessary transfer to wordpress.

Under construction but back in touch soon!

Spic and Span: Just right cleaning supplies

The master planned community where I live is a totally green community.  Builders are required to follow strict building codes using green materials.  I love the idea of living in a community where they value our world and stress the importance of caring for environment.  So what does this  have to do with the title of this blog you ask?

Well . . . if you've been around awhile you know that I am a wee bit cleaning nut.  Sometimes my hobby obsession gets the best of me.  I feel like everything needs to sterilized, polished, and dusted to ensure that the germs are all but gone.  Once I put the bucket away and thought about it I realized that my thinking was a bit off.  Sure the dust is gone, but what about the toxins that I just put in the environment to cross that job off the to do list.  Isn't there some thinking behind dust vs. chemicals . . . in terms of safety and environmental friendliness?

So, what am I to do.  I can't go without training.  I had to find another option.  For me that option was doTerra oils.  I received my kit on Saturday and can't wait to get busy discovering how these high quality oils can get the job done.  Stay tuned.

Operation Spic and Span: The Master Bath

Finally.  Finally it feels like the house is becoming a home.  With the scent of cardboard a distant memory, it's now time to start organizing and doing a deep clean of every room.  While there is still much work to be done, the master bath was the first to receive the green light for organization and the deep clean.

Many of the materials used to make this bathroom absolutely stunning are different than the home in the midwest.  Therefore, it's taking some time to figure out the best cleaning products to get the job done.  The floor is a delicate and beautiful porcelain.  The sink is a smooth cultured marble.  The trim is stained white.  And there is A LOT of grout!  Couple that with the fact that this is a GREEN community and I want to do my part to CLEAN GREEN, the cleaning routine has taken some time to get down to a science.

So, introducing my new best friend - Borax . . . not only is it great for making a fabulous laundry detergent at a fraction of the price of store bought but it also is a wonderful all purpose cleaner.  For the master bath it is as simple as using a damp micro-fiber cloth.  With a little borax on the cloth, you can clean and disinfect all porous surfaces, etc. until they sparkle and shine.  It's really as simple as 1, 2, 3.  Clean.  Rinse.  Dry and shine!  Love, love, love it.

Here's a picture of part of the linen closet.  Using Dollar Store baskets in my favorite color of turquoise, bathroom essentials are organized by type of product.

There is still PLENTY of work to do to get the master bath "just so".
  • One of the blinds arrived broken.  Jim from Home Depot will deliver a new blind this week.
  • Labels need to be designed and laminated for the baskets to easily identify their content.
  • I'd like to find some new rugs on sale to brighten up the bathroom.  The ones in there now are black and from the old house.
  • A few little decorative touches to follow and then it should be good to go.
Love the space and can't wait to show you the final look in a few weeks.
